Witch’s Rock has rideable swell year-round, but the character flips between two regimes and the best days come when they overlap. The dry season (roughly December to April) brings the Papagayo offshore winds most mornings, grooming clean, hollow peaks, though the swell is smaller and less consistent. The wet or green season (May to November) delivers the biggest, most consistent Southern Hemisphere south-to-southwest groundswell and fewer crowds, but more rain and less reliable morning offshore. The shoulders — late April to May and November — are often the sweet spot, with enough swell and the offshore still blowing.

Where the swell comes from

Southern Hemisphere south-to-southwest groundswell as the primary size engine (May to November peak), with steadier, generally smaller west-to-northwest pulses more present in the dry season.

"The Endless Summer II"

The film featured Witch’s Rock and nearby Ollie’s Point and is widely credited with putting the spot — and Costa Rican surf tourism — on the map, showcasing this remote, boat-access beach break inside a national park.
