Todos Santos Island Surf Season
Baja California, Mexico · part of the Todos Santos Island spot guide
Prime is November to March, the winter North Pacific groundswell season, when Aleutian and North Pacific storms fire long-period northwest groundswell down to Baja. December to February is the reliable big-swell heart, with November and March strong shoulders. From May to August the North Pacific is quiet and the big-wave reef rarely engages, and spring upwelling brings cold, windy water.
Where the swell comes from
North Pacific and Aleutian winter storms sending long-period west-to-northwest groundswell down the Pacific to Baja — the engine that the submarine canyon focuses onto the reef.

Billabong XXL day
A tow ride at Killers measured at 68 feet won the 2006 Biggest Wave award — a benchmark of the XXL size the canyon-focused reef can produce.
Thriller at Killers
A powerful northwest swell lit the reef with faces well over 25 feet for an invite-only, rescue-supported big-wave contest — an extreme-consequence, expert-only day.
