Pasta Point Alert Guide
North Malé Atoll, Maldives · part of the Pasta Point spot guide
Pasta Point is forecast-only — no representative buoy near the Maldives — so this is a model-swell alert. The atoll pass softens the swell, so the height below reads at or above the breaking face, not below it.
The forecaster's checklist
- 1.Source a south-to-southwest groundswell, not local wind-swell — want an open-ocean height wrapping in at 12 seconds or more (14-plus is prime).
- 2.Open-ocean height around three feet is the practical trigger for a fun session; five-to-seven feet is prime — and expect the face at or below the model height.
- 3.Favour a northwest-to-west offshore or the dry-season northeast; anything with a northerly component grooms it, straight onshore southeast-to-south is the direction to avoid.
- 4.Aim for mid tide — it is tolerant across the tide, but low tide sharpens and shallows the inside Lockjaws section.
- 5.Check access first: it is a resort-gated break with a capped in-water count, so confirm you can be in the water before chasing a forecast.
Local winds & tide
Best wind: W–N–NE offshore (unusually wind-tolerant) — from 270° to 45° (W–NE).
One of the more tide-tolerant Maldives reefs — works across all tides with mid-tide the consensus sweet spot; low tide sharpens the shallow Lockjaws inside section.
