Bundoran (The Peak) Surf Season
County Donegal, Ireland · part of the Bundoran (The Peak) spot guide
The Peak runs on the North Atlantic autumn-and-winter storm track: deep lows between Newfoundland and Iceland fire long-period west-northwest groundswell into Donegal Bay. Prime is September through April, heaviest and most consistent November through February, with February often the premier month. The trade-off is 8-to-10°C water, short days and raw weather, so deep winter is experienced-only.
Where the swell comes from
North Atlantic lows tracking Newfoundland to Iceland, or parked southwest of Ireland, fire the long-period west-to-northwest groundswell that Donegal Bay funnels onto the reef.

European Championships
The European Surfing Championships were held at The Peak in solid Atlantic waves — early proof of its contest-grade consistency.
Storm Éowyn
Ireland’s most powerful storm in decades drove the Donegal buoy past 18 metres offshore — the class of low that maxes The Peak’s right and closes the left.
